JAWS was created in 2002 on Kauai after learning that many children of the island were  unable to swim. Swim classes on the island were few and seasonal which created large class sizes. JAWS prides itself on small class sizes to ensure the students get individual attention and can actually "swim" in their lesson.  Within a few years of operation classes were full to JAWS' standards and waitlists were put into effect. Coach Melissa's patience and confidence help to build trust in the swimmer so that they are swimming within the first few lessons.
JAWS is now providing other fitness programs in running & triathlon.  Coach Melissa is a certified RRCA coach in running (Road Runners Club of America) and a certified USMS Coach with (United States Masters Swimming).  Come play with us!!

About the Coach
At the age of 15 Melissa got her American Red Cross WSI & Lifeguard Certification as a requirement for a summer job.  She was able to share her passion for the water with kids and adults alike. From there, water and swim lessons always seemed to follow her. She taught and lifeguarded through her high school and college years before landing on Kauai where she then became a firefighter and a swim coach for a local high school. It was there Melissa opened her business (Just Add Water Swimming (J.A.W.S.). After competing in the Hawaii Ironman World Championships (2005) and getting married (2006), Melissa relocated to the Big Island of Hawaii to start her family (2007).  JAWS officially reopened in Papa'aloa during the summer of 2011 and has expanded to provide training programs in swimming, running and triathlon.
